A friend of mine referred me to you but I don't live in California. Can you still design a website for me? How would we meet? I’ve got pictures and some written stuff I want you to build into my site. How can we do that?
Yes, of course we can design a site for you. Distance, in this digital age, is all in the mind. It doesn’t matter where in the world you live. We can communicate via telephone, email, or text message. Documents, images and other website content can be snail mailed, emailed, faxed, or text messaged. Our fees can be paid online via paypal. You can follow our progress on your project directly on the web in a special part of our website setup for clients only. It’s all really very easy …
Sounds good…ok, now are your websites responsive? How will my website look on different size monitors, tablets, and smart phones?
All websites we build are responsive, but due to the vast number of web browsers, screen sizes, platforms, and devices, the user experience of your website may change to best fit the viewing platform. We always use “best practices” to meet industry standards for web design. We do our best to ensure that the design will be functional on all mainstream platforms, but because of the increasingly vast number of web accessible devices available and their age (older browsers won’t take advantage of the newer technologies), we can’t guarantee that the design will look identical from one device and/or monitor to another. Therefore, we always advise our clients to upgrade their browsers to the latest versions, and if possible, be sure to use equipment that is no more than 3-4 years old.
I’ve got another question. How much is this going to cost me?
Well, that depends on the type of work you want us to do for you. We bill at $65 per hour for smaller, relatively easy projects such as business card design, logos, slogans, and letterhead design. Generally, you can figure 1-4 hours of work on these projects. Larger more time consuming work such as new, or redesigned websites, advertising campaigns, copywriting, brochures, signage, and small business identity packages will be quoted a fixed price. Contact us. Let us know what you need … and we’ll tell you what we need to do the job.
BTW, the more ‘ready to go’ written copy, images, and content you can provide us with, the less work we’ll have to do and the less $$ we’ll need to do the job. But please be aware that if you want an exceptional job, the materials you provide us with should also be exceptional. If necessary, we can, of course, copy edit, image edit, and ‘polish’ whatever material you provide us with.
Remember … the reason you want to hire us is because we are very good at what we do … design work, SEO, and copywriting. This frees you up to do what you do best … run your business … which means you can concentrate on increasing your bottom line, confident that we are doing our part to help you do just that.
How long will it take you to put together a 4th of July ad campaign for us?
That really depends on our current workload. Generally, if there is a time sensitive job, we can make accommodations to push it through quickly in order to meet your deadline. We will charge a premium, however, because we will be working above and beyond our normal time constraints for your campaign. It’s always best to plan your campaigns or other needed work well in advance so that we have adequate time to produce the desired results at our normal fee.
Can you give me an idea of what a small 4 page website will cost?
That depends on how complex that ‘small’ site needs to be. If you’re asking about a personal website or blogging site, the average price range is $350-$750, depending, again, on what’s needed. We can do slide shows, various page animations, videos, audio, SEO, etc. Keep in mind that the more you want on your site, the more it will cost to produce it.
Do you also do business branding?
Yes. We call that our Business Identity package. Those packages can consist of any or all of the following design work: business cards, company logo, letterhead, brochures, flyers, display signage, sales animations, ad campaigns, other types of print media, and, of course, websites. All will have a common theme that will help to set your business apart from the competition.
What is the usual time frame to build a small website?
This, too, depends on our current work load and also the complexity of what you want built. Usually, a small site takes between 1-3 weeks to complete. A medium size business or eCommerce site anywhere from 3-5 weeks. As mentioned in an earlier question, if you need a rush job, we can most likely accommodate you, but there will be an extra cost involved.
Once I hire you to do my website, what’s the next step?
Very good question. After we discuss what you require of us, I will draw up an agreement spelling out exactly what we will do for you … and what you will do for us. Things that you can supply us with, if available, are any pre-written content, web ready images, video, audio, etc. Providing these items will make the job go faster. Of course, if you don’t have these items the website will take longer to build and the cost will be reflected in the amount of extra work we will need to do. The agreement will list all costs involved including a payment schedule. We require 50% down upon execution of the agreement. Another 25% is due once the site is ready for your first review.
At that point we will have created, and given you access to, a non-public version of your website in a special area of our website. You can watch our progress and give us input on things that you might like to have changed. Please keep in mind that any additional work not in the original agreement, such as additional pages, videos, excessive additional images, etc. may incur added charges. The final 25% payment is to be made upon your approval of the website once it goes live.
Once the site is completed and live on the internet, you will have 5 days to review our work and ask us to make minor changes. Since you have been able to follow our progress on the ‘non-public’ version of your site, suggesting changes along the way, only minor changes will be made at no charge once the site is complete. Major changes and/or additions will be at our standard piece work rate of $55 per hour.
I don’t need a website. But I do need 1500 2-sided business cards. Can you design one for me and can you get them printed at a reasonable cost?
Yes, we design business cards as well as logos, brochures, flyers, etc. We can do the design and also provide the finished product printed in one of several different finishes, i.e. gloss, matte, embossed, silver highlights etc. Also various business card thicknesses. The SilkyWeb Design Studio can be (this is cliche, but true) “your one stop shop for all your design needs.”
Do you also do SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?
Yes. If requested, we will provide basic SEO at no additional charge. This Search Engine Optimization consists of adding dozens of hidden ‘meta tags’ within the coding of your site that are only readable by the search engines. We will also write your website content with SEO in mind, i.e. using keywords liberally (and logically) throughout the website for the search engines to index. “Back links”, if available, will also be added. These are links from other sites that link back to your website. The more links to your site, the higher you will rank in the search engines. Your site will also be submitted to the top 20 search engines.
Will you manage my website on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis?
Yes. If you want us to manage your site so that you can just sit back and enjoy the benefits of having a well-designed and managed website, we will. We’ll draw up a separate agreement stating what this ‘management’ will consist of and what the monthly charge will be. That charge will be based on what your monthly requirements are. If you need us to monitor the site weekly for problems and fix any that we find, give you weekly reports on how many visitors you’ve had, occasionally upload some additional content or pictures, and notify you when your annual hosting/domain renewal is coming due, the cost will be minimal, probably $55 - $95 weekly. If, on the other hand, you have an eCommerce site and need us to do daily uploads of product and constantly changing written content, you can plan on doubling or even tripling that fee.
